Latest Addition to BFG

After my workshop changes which you can read about on my Trivial Wood website if you like, I knocked out this quick plaques for BFG! I burned the plaques yesterday and left the finish to dry overnight. I hung the sign first this this morning and while I was there had a quick look at the solar panel status – I was well pleased with this level of output at only quarter to nine in the morning, plus, it was … Read More

Premonition and Timing!

posted in: General 0

We were just chatting about the van completion and how unfortunate the timing is, completing the van and then not being able to go anywhere in it. It’s worse than just that, I’m a proper master of timing I am! The MOT expired on the van in February while I was converting it. At the beginning of March it went for its MOT, which it passed with no problems. Today the government suspends MOTs for six months! During February our … Read More

Travels in Forrest/BFG

Although, as per my last post, BFG (Big Friendly Giant) isn’t going to be going anywhere for the foreseeable future when we do get away it will, of course, be in the new van so this site will effectively become Travels in BFG! The web address will remain travelsinforrest.uk for continuity.

Travels in BFG, or NOT!!!

BFG (Big Friendly Giant) as the new van conversion is called, is pretty much finished now, just in time to go – NOWHERE! In the current situation, any travel away in our newly converted campervan would be just plain irresponsible even if it hasn’t quite been completely banned yet. So here he is on the drive. We don’t expect to be going anywhere in the van for the foreseeable future. I know one or two people on a Wild Camping … Read More

1st Outing since Repairs – MOT

posted in: General, Travels 0

The MOT on Forrest expired during the engine repairs so this needed attending to before anything else once he was back on the road again. At this time of the year, the ferries between Westray and Mainland need booking pretty well in advance and the date we booked Forrest in for his MOT we were normal booking out from Westray to Kirkwall but would have been 4th standby for the return journey to Westray. In a motorhome, there would be … Read More

Some Good News and some Very Bad News!

Good New First… We finally managed to get away for our first trip since installing the solar panel giving us an opportunity to properly test the inverter/solar panel setup in real life use. I’m very happy with the results. It was very dull for the first two days away, with a fair bit of rain thrown in for good measure! Even so, we used the microwave to heat a home made lasagne on the first night. As it happens that … Read More

Forrest is Back Home

posted in: General 0

Forrest is back home now, Yay! I’m already looking forward and planning our next trip. We just need the weather to settle a bit. Cold isn’t a problem as Forrest has an excellent heating system and is snug and warm. It’s hard to imagine travelling and camping in these winds being fun though.

Well Done Forrest!

Well done Forrest! Forrest has passed his MOT with just two minor advisories. He’s staying at the garage a bit longer for a full service and cam belt change (there’s no service record of the belt having been changed so, better safe than sorry). The garage are going to see to the MOT advisories too so that we’re ready for next year. Happy Days!

We got a Motorhome!

This is Forrest when we got him home on the 18th March. We definitely got a good buy here. Few little bits and bobs to “make him ours”, but everything works as it should and he’s good to go…
