Wild Camping at Ferness

posted in: Travels 0

At last! Found a place where, instead of pulling like a crazy in mad panic to get back into the van, Oscar did the old trick of laying down and refusing to move as of to say “no, no, more walking please”. Stayed in a little clearing near Ferness next to the river Findhorn last night.

Clash Woods

We’ve been at Clash wood in Muir of Ord most of the afternoon and will probably stay here the night. Some interesting fungus in the woods. Oscar likes the woods.

Wild Camp at Armadale

Finally, we get to go off on another little jaunt, first trip since Forrest’s service. First night, wild camp at Armadale. The we drove on to the Falls of Shin. This took rather longer than intended as we were planning ongoing down the A836 and having morning coffee stop at Rosal Heights but the road was closed. So, we followed the detour, oh my some detour! But then I suppose there aren’t a lot of alternate routes in the Highlands.

Loch Rannoch

Oops! I’ve not kept up to our travels and we’re back home now. So here’s a quick catch up. Long story, sorry…. We spent two nights at the Camping and Caravan Club site at Scone. It wasn’t the best. Ralia Cafe

Ralia cafe off the A9, looks like it could be a good spot to wild camp. We bought a couple of coffees here and had a little picnic in the van. Nice walk for Oscar too. If we ever figure out how to post to this page from Marlene’s phone she has some better photos.

Nairn Campsite Again

Our favourite campsite again at Nairn. Lovely woodland walks for Oscar, straight out the back of the pitch.

Skelbo Forest

Stopped at Skelbo forest for a little walk to stretch our legs. It was all going okay till Oscar heard a bird scarer in the distance, then it was head down four wheel drive towed back to the van. He is such a windy beggar! At least he obviously views the van as ‘home’ and makes a bee line for that.

Oscar Likes Bed!

Overnighted at the Stromness ferry terminal ready for the 06:30 ferry. Usual problem getting Oscar out of bed.

Hospital Appointment on Orkney Mainland

We were over on Orkney Mainland last week as Marlene had a hospital appointment. I discovered this lovely little parking/overnight spot just before Finstown, traveling from Kirkwall.
